The Innovation Ideation Skills Badge empowers young people to think outside the box and develop practical innovation skills. Over eight weeks, students will: 

  • Develop an innovation mindset. Foster a mindset geared towards continuous improvement, risk-taking, and leveraging creative solutions to complex problems.
  • Master creative problem-solving techniques to turn challenges into opportunities.
  • Learn to effectively generate, develop, and refine innovative ideas that are aligned with user needs and market demands.
  • Develop emotional intelligence skills for stronger business relationships.
  • Analyse real startup case studies to sharpen your innovation toolkit.
  • Learn to assess market potential and craft compelling pitches that resonate with stakeholders.
  • Validate ideas through market research. Gain practical skills in designing and conducting validation surveys and interviews to test the viability of ideas and refine business strategies based on real-world feedback.

No exams. No boring lectures. Just an interactive, online experience led by experts. The course will comprise online interactive workshops, readings, case studies and activities.

Over the eight weeks of the course, participants can expect a time commitment of approximately 3 hours per week, consisting of:

  • 1.5 hour online workshop via Butter
  • 30 minutes per week on reading and reflection
  • 1 hour per week on assessments.

The following content will be covered during the course:

  • An introduction to key theories of start up ideation and innovation
  • Case studies of real-world issues
  • Industry and start-up presentations
  • Practical tools that will be used by participants to ideate a start-up solution and assess market viability and desirability

Week 3: Exploring Market Opportunities

Week 4: Opportunity Analysis

Week 5: Ideating the Solution

Week 6: Customer Mapping

Week 7: Business Model Development

Week 8: Pitch and Storytelling

Participants will work collaboratively in teams to apply practices and skills to a start-up idea either their own, in a team or a real world industry problems and skills to a start-up idea either their own, in a team or a real world industry problem

Participants will demonstrate their learning through an Innovation Project Portfolio, containing:

Innovation Pitch Presentation: A final presentation that effectively communicates the innovative solution with feedback from start-up founders.

Problem Statement and Justification: A clearly articulated problem statement supported by market or community needs analysis.

Customer Personas: Detailed profiles of potential users or customers, highlighting their needs, behaviors, and pain points.

Solution Ideation Log: A record of brainstormed solutions, selection criteria, and final concept choice.

Market Validation Summary: A summary of primary and secondary research findings that validate the feasibility and market need for the proposed solution.

To complete this online course, you will need a personal computer with adequate internet access and sufficient software and bandwidth to support web conferencing.
